Hey, I hope all is good. Plenty is happening in the Video Universe so I'll try and be brief! YouTube Monetization changes A lot of speculation and panic has ensued regarding YouTube demonetizing 'inauthentic content' from July 15. We are potentially talking about AI content, clips, re-purposing, reaction videos. Well YouTube has now addressed the concerns to say it's only a minor update to classifying 'repetitious content'. Watch here: and here: Facebook is on the prowl too! Meta is taking action against βunoriginal contentβ with stronger enforcement. π Read the article.β Then Swipe Away I've seen some big advertisers use this 'reverse psychology' hook, so it might indicate it's working. Challenge them to swipe away but MISS OUT on something useful. You can use it for ads or social content. Use it right at the top of your video. Examples: "If you don't want to save money on your bills then swipe away now" 'βIf you love overpaying for groceries, keep scrolling.β βOnly skip this if you're rich and donβt care about budgeting.β You get the drift. Try it. Best Plane safety film ever! I mentioned last time I had returned from a 2 week vacation to Japan! Wow! What a country, so polite, no loudmouths or speaker phones in cafe's lol, the ticket inspectors even bow to passengers as they enter and leave the carriage! On the journey out British Airways had the best safety briefing video ever! It's set in the 19th century but is showing plane safety advice! Quite a contrast that grabs attention immediately. I spotted this comment: "I can't believe I just watched a 5 minute safety video when I'm not on a plane. Well done BA." π Watch here.β But how can we apply this to our own videos? Well juxtapose two opposites. Ask ChatGPT for ideas. Here's a couple: A caveman discovers Zoom calls, Slack, and the struggle of poor Wi-Fi. A Shakespearean actor breaks down how to optimize your LinkedIn profile in sonnet form. You with me? Camera shops in Japan are insane Rows upon rows of gear, here's my daughter with a lens she doesn't need. The prices in general I found were slightly lower than the UK but nothing crazy. I did like how they had installations to test gear. This was something fun to try out the eye tracking feature on lenses. Get your Social Media handles out there In the heart of Osaka's entertainment district ... This plastic surgeon had a billboard and bothered to include his YouTube name! A VideoHero! β Enduring appeal Fifty years on people are still obsessed with Jaws. I went to the Jaws ride at Universal Studios Japan. Huge queues. Probably the funniest image from my trip is below :) Well this got me rewatching the film, and the insightful documentary 'Jaws - The Inside Story' you can find on Amazon Prime. When you watch any movie think about what can you apply to your videos. Here's just 3 tips from re-watching Jaws. (Without even mentioning the power of music) Pacing The film balances quiet moments with sudden spikes of action, keeping viewers constantly on edge. Keep your viewers attention by altering pace in your videos. Think smart The shark had a lot of technical issues (the cables got wrecked by salt water) so it wasn't included as much as intended, especially at the start, but it was the suggestion of the shark being present that added to the tension. Build up to revealing your product, show glimpses, tantalize ... then reveal. Symbolism The shark is more than a shark, it is a metaphor for fear and evil. So think - what is a metaphor for your message, if you are addressing a prospects fears before offering a solution - how could you visually represent that fear? Speak soon, Jules βVideoHeroβ β
