Hey,

I hope all is good and your New Year is going well.

Keeping an AI out

I thought I'd share this breakdown of how a colleague of my wife Kjell Brataas (a Crisis Communication expert) made his own book trailer.

You can watch his final video here. The people are avatars!

Kjell writes:

"I uploaded a PDF of one of the chapters of my new book to Google NotebookLM and got it to produce a 10 minute audio podcast with two "people" (AI generated) discussing the contents.

The two different podcast files (MP3 formats) were separated in Adobe Premiere Pro, so that I had one file for the female voice and one for the male voice I uploaded each voice to HeyGen, picked a man and a woman avatar and had a video made with each of them speaking the voice from the podcast.

I then downloaded the video files from HeyGen, imported into Premiere Pro and spent quite a few hours on the editing process.

I realise it's not perfect, but I think it's interesting to see what AI can do today - and also a bit scary!"

πŸ‘‰ So what do you think of the video and the style?

Don't forget Kjell is not a video pro.

YouTube shorts now not so short 😞

So I am sure you know there is a US TikTok ban looming on Sunday .. or maybe not as it's still unclear how it will all work, and if the app gets a last minute reprieve.

But in the meantime other platforms are gearing up to take over the creators should it happen.

So conveniently YouTube has announced ALL users can now create shorts 'in app' up to three minutes duration - no 60 secs max. TikTok already allows 10 mins for videos recorded in the app.

'Hobby' channel anyone?

Have you noticed the trend of Business Coaches creating sideline YouTube channels based on their hobby?

Why are they doing this? Well here's my thoughts:

  • They got a little bored of talking head videos teaching their day job content. Though they still keep it up.
  • They want to tackle a more visual topic and have fun by documenting their interests which they spend their time on anyway.
  • They want to improve their video skills by tacking a new topic and filter that back into their regular content.
  • By succeeding with a channel outside of their niche they can teach how they created a niche channel to their students via paid courses.
  • They can create a brand with new income streams via Ad revenue, sponsorships, events, affiliate links, products and merch. (Pat Flynn has his own in person event based on his Pokemon channel!)
  • They get free stuff sent to them so their hobby gets cheaper.
  • They get more fans and adulation πŸ‘

I am sure there are more reasons.

A couple of examples:

James Schramko is growing a Surf channel at BlinkSurf.

Pat Flynn has a huge 1.31m subs Pokemon Channel at Deep Pocket Monster.

Have you spotted other examples? Please let me know.

Distinctive style

I love how this teacher teases his viewers, and approaches his teaching in a very distinctive style.

He stands out a mile from his competitors, not everyone's cup of tea but if you have the personality you might as well go for it!

443k YouTube subs means he is doing something right.

Stay tuned as in the next 'Viewsletter' I will share some video learnings from my trip. In the meantime: Keep cutting I love how Big AL keeps his talking head moving. We all probably make videos like this sometimes, heavy on a talking head, not much to show in terms of b-roll. But there is no need to just sit there like a lemon. This YouTuber...

πŸ‘€ Viewsletter Afternoon! Just one quick tip today. But a valuable one. If you are launching a product and driving valuable traffic to a sales page (or have an evergreen product that sells) always have your Sales Video and other sales page videos uploaded to a second video host! Case in point ... yesterday I mailed a recommendation for Audgram and immediately got some emails back from you that NONE of the videos were available to view! That is a surefire way NOT to get signups and lose your...
